Sophisticake

Lake Grace’s “Cake Lady”, Pam Lannin, started one Christmas with a few cakes being made for family and friends. The recipe Pam uses has been adapted from an old family recipe that has been passed down through the generations.

Demand for these traditional, handmade cakes steadily increased over the next five years. With this increase in business, “Sophisticake”, was started and sales have increased through fairs, select stores and a growing number of corporate orders. Over one thousand cakes were distributed last year.

The business has now expanded to include other edible gifts such as Panforte, Almond and Pistachio Crisp Breads, Decorated Honey Biscuits and Christmas Fruit Puddings. Products are now being sent Australia wide.
Sophisticake also continues to meet the demand for wedding and other celebration cakes and biscuits within Western Australia.

In 2007, to meet customer demand, a new partner (Margaret Teasdale) came on board and a second kitchen opened in Bruce Rock. Margaret and Pam are both qualified cake decorators, having taught cake decorating and both have been involved in the catering industry for over thirty years. In 2008 Pam has moved to Perth and now operates from a commercial kitchen in the Mundaring Shire. Both these changes now mean they are able to better meet customer demands.
